The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research(DSIR), which comes under the Ministry of Science and Technology, provides recognition to software product and manufacturing companies registered in India. The recognition is given to companies with in-house R&D centers in compliance with the DSIR’s guidelines.
Now what comes to the mind when we talk about R&D, in general? We think that its about making a new groundbreaking product every other day! That is the usual conception, isn’t it? Now, do really know what R&D is as per the DSIR?
As much as we would like to believe it, the DSIR has its own definition of the same.
See the difference? It has to be a new product or process, alright, but new for the company!!
So, if you are developing a product/process that is new for the company, it is R&D.
If you are producing something that we previously used to import from some other country, it is R&D.
And, if you are developing a process that reduces the cost of production, it is R&D!!!
Now that you know a little bit more than you used to about the whole process, go and see how many boxes can you check.
And spread the word!! For awareness is the key!!
